On a campus aimed at de-colonizing, how can we create spaces for inclusivity?

Informed by the need for diverse spaces in Canadian education, Empathetic Gathering seeks to provide a multi-use platform for students, faculty, and visitors to connect with one another at the University of Waterloo.

Located near a crossroads by a graduate social hub and the main library, this pavilion is segmented into two distinct spaces. One is for casual socializing, embedded into the pathways students frequent. The other, elevated by a concrete staircase, is split into a study area and a presentation space by a screen divider. Circle motifs and a transparent frame inspire passerby to engage, witness, and participate.
